WORKSHOP: Painting the Interior

When: January 18-20, 2018 Thursday-Saturday

Cost: $350.00

Medium: Oil and/or Acrylic

Painting interiors has always been a fundamental part of Impressionist painting, and particularly contemporary Impressionist painting. Capturing the light, whether natural light through a window or door, or artificial light from a lamp or other inside lighting.

The walls, furniture, floors, and flowers are simply a vehicle for the light to “show off”. Painting these scenes can be both fun, and result in very cozy results. As always, in this workshop, we will learn to simplify the shapes and design of the interior scene, in order to paint them in a fresh and spontaneous manner.

The workshop will be held in Jim’s studio, above the Saluda Grade Café , 40 E. Main St., in Saluda, N.C.

There will be lots of one on one easel time, a demonstration by Jim on Thursday, and a general critique of the day’s work at the end of each day. The workshop is open to all levels, from beginners to advanced. A list of brushes, etc. will be furnished after registration.

There will be lots of one on one instruction time, a lengthy demonstration by Jim on Thursday, and a general critique of the day’s work at the end of each day, which is not mandatory.

The workshop is open to all levels, from beginner to advanced. A materials list of brushes, paints, etc. will be furnished after registration.

A non-refundable deposit of $150 will hold a place.

Workshops To Go

When: You pick the date

Where: On Site at your location

Cost: $350.00

Medium: Oil and/or acrylic

I am offering a new idea for Workshhops ........ "Have Paints Will Travel"

I will come to your location and conduct a "plein air" outdoor or indoor, 2 or 3 day workshop.

If you gather seven or more students, in addition to yourself, you will take the workshop for free.

I will arrive in advance and select some great painting locations if it is outdoors.

The cost of this workshop will be $350 per student.

Any 3 days of the week are available, as long as they don't conflict with my other workshop schedule.

As with any of my scheduled workshops, we will learn how to see large shapes and to apply the paint quickly and confidently.

There will also be an emphasis on simplifying shapes, color harmony, painterly marks and compositions.
